When did we become a SEX focused Culture?

When did we become a SEX focused Culture?

I don’t think a day goes by without a news article, or a commentary,or a workshop being posted about some sex focused issue that our community is facing!

At one end of the scale there is talk of the saneness and need for counseling for young teenage girls when ‘virginity’ is stolen from them through a rape or rape like scenario, and discussions as to how girls deal with that sense of loss of ‘purity’.

And then today we read of a battle a major Sydney Council has just sex shops on the main street of their city.

The NSW Department of Planning wants councils across the state to allow boarding house (backpacker style accommodation)and restricted premises such as sex shops into the local CBD.(The Telegraph 13th June 2013).

When did our value system go so askew, to the extent that we have to FIGHT to stop ‘formalized promiscuity’ being housed next door to our local Coles and Woolworth’s, and then, in the same street (hypothetically) provide counseling to young women who are struggling to come to terms with the grief caused by other who are out of control and consider it a ‘right’ to talk sexually, whats not theirs to take.

SLICE by SLICE

Our culture and what we value in our culture, suffers from a slow but steady from of erosion. Much of it we do not notice , as the wearing down is so small- it hardly makes a difference.BUT I feel , in this aspect, the slices are not small, in fact they are VERY noticeable and the evidence is VERY visible. Technology is only a small part of the picture here- but it definitely plays a role.

We see the easy at which our kids, this rising generation, can enter a world which provokes them to take risk with their privacy -and so much of it is now just an accepted ‘Way’ of communicating. Our hope is to take a small but hopefully significant stand in promoting and nurturing the richness of family values such as love, truth, responsibility and creativity, whilst also embracing this world of technology with the goodness it CAN bring to our lives!

If so when did we become a SEX focused Culture?

In so many ways- our families CAN can be a safe place for our kids to come home to!many ways- our families CAN can be a safe place for our kids to come home to!

No such things as 100% Secure

Barack Obama said, last month, “You cannot have 100% security and also then have 100% privacy and zero inconvenience”

Its an interesting dilemma we face.

It also a dilemma we face NOW, because technology has made us vulnerable but to build security to protect, our privacy has subsequently been put a risk!

Britain’s The Guardian newspaper reported that the National Security Agency had been ‘data mining’ millions of phone calls Within the US.

The Washington Post revealed the existence of PRISM, a program to trace the internet activity. Authorities had been tapping into the central servers of nine internet companies inculding Google, Apple, Yahoo and Facebook – to gain access to emails, photographs and other documents and files that would allow analysts to track a person’s movements and contacts.

Statement saying: “We have never received a blanket request or Court order from any government agency asking for information Or metadata in bulk, like the one Verizon reportedly received. And if we did, we would fight it aggressively.”

However – whilst the battle rages over whether this is possible, Necessary or even desirable – as Obama stated … “we’re going to have make some choices as a society”.
